February is Black History Month.

I was delighted to be with my colleagues in Ottawa, celebrating Black History Month themed “Black Canadian Women: Stories of Strength, Courage and Vision”. Our Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, was joined by the Hon. Ahmed Hussen and MPs Celina Caesar-Chavannes and MP Greg Fergus, not only for the perfect opportunity to celebrate the successes and contributions of Black Canadians, but also to take action on the systemic challenges facing Black Canadians. Thanks to the Honourable Melanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage for bringing us all together.

Celebrating Canadian Black History

On Wednesday, February 21st 2018, join me and other panelists at Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre – NYCE Lounge, 3650 Dixie Road, Mississauga ON (South-West corner of Dixie and Burnhamthorpe) | Time: 4pm-7pm

Encouraging Women in STEM

Only 22% of all Canadians working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are women.

Take action to encourage women to join the STEM field to help ensure a bright future for Canadian women and our future workforce.

There’s never been a better time for women to start their journey into STEM.

When our government took office, we said that we would make family reunification one of our core immigration policies. On February 14, 2018, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced:

  1. We have met our goal of cutting processing time in half for spousal applications for 82% of clients
  2. We have also cleared the backlog by 80%
